Penelope V3 - First impressions.

I received some Vape-mail today which I had no idea was coming so it was a very pleasant surprise. What was delivered is what you see below, the Penelope V3. I am a big fan of the original Penelope V1 and the V2. I still use mine now and then, especially on my Stealth for short trips out. It is a great little atomizer that can compete with the best. Here's my quick rundown on the V3.

Changes

The Penelope V3 has been given an update along the same lines as the Ithaka upgrade. The internal connections are now the same as the Ithaka upgrade, allowing coil building without the need for no res wire. As with the V2 before it, the GG wings are now on the base rather than on the main tube of the tank, on the opposite side of the wings is the serial number. I think the plain tube looks really nice, the more subtle logo is much cooler.

Apart from the internals the design is very similar to the Penelope V1. This makes a lot of the parts compatible, therefore giving you more spares if you ever need them.

There are a few changes with the connection. It features a shorter, adjustable positive pin and air flow holes.

The connection for the coil wire is the same as Ithaka design. The housing has a slightly larger cutout for wick/cotton. I've been using cotton for a while now and I can see those cutouts helping to keep the cotton wet.

 Building a coil is very simple and takes a lot less time. Another big advantage for me is I can use the Dripper part from my Oddy to make a rebuildable dripper that is around the same size as a AA battery.

Conclusion

Overall I think this is one of the coolest Golden Greek tanks Imeo has made. The Penelope is now even better than it was. I love the small size, ease of use and the stylish look of it. If you get the chance to buy one I'd say it would be a good investment. 

The Penelope V3 is a fantastic bit of kit, it's simple as that.

Ithaka Update - mini review

I have spent the last couple of months using a mix of Odysseus and the Ithaka Update. The Update part I have been using as a dripper with the Odysseus Drip Mode Mouthpiece.  This is my review on my findings.

Before getting the Update I had never tried Micro coils or using cotton as wicking. What I have found with the cotton is that it gives a very clean taste, letting the full flavour of your juice come through. You have to make sure it stays wet as it dries and burns very quickly. The main advantage of cotton is the fact it is readily available everywhere. Just make sure to get 100% untreated cotton.

The Update part has been a lifesaver for me. It is quick and easy to change and allows for a variety of setups. I have been using a single coil as shown in the picture below. The best results I have had have been with my ribbon wire at around 1ohm. The screws are simple to loosen then tighten over your wire and the whole unit is very well made. Adjustments can be made when building to allow more or less air flow in to the coil. The Update part has plenty of room to hold cotton or silica wick to feed the coil.

If you don't have this part and you're considering buying it I can say I highly recommend it. I don't mind twisting wires together but this makes things so much easier and quicker. The design of the part also makes it very easy to make neat and tidy coils, keeping tighter control on the resistance too. 

I believe Imeo is working on more versions to fit in other GG tanks which is a smart move.  It has totally changed my view towards rebuildables, I see them just as convenient as store bought atty's now. 

The biggest advantage to me is the cost. With the Update kit I use about an inch or less of wire and a pinch of cotton. Keeping the cotton wet you can run this for days easily if you wanted. But as it is so cost effective you could change the whole coil once a day and still not spend more than a couple of pounds/dollars a month. This free's up funds to spend on juice, batteries,etc.

Summing up I think the Update kit is an essential part for any Ithaka owner. It's ease of use and functionality are a huge plus in my book. I think they are out of stock at the moment but if they come back into stock or you see one in the classifieds I highly recommend buying one.

Hi all, hope you are all had a good first month of the year. There are already new GG pieces appearing from Imeo, mainly small updates to existing parts. There is still a lot to look forward to in the coming months with the Proteus being the one release everybody is waiting for.

2014 - Time to Plan Ahead

A new year and a new start. I thought I would give all my GG pieces a clean and make sure they are all in good working order. I gave all the parts a wash and dry, then lightly rubbed Vaseline on all the O rings. I also took the time to write down all the parts I have so I have a better idea of what I have put away in drawers. I am still trying to figure out micro-coils and how to use them effectively on my GG tanks but at least I have the tanks all ready to build.

The Year Ahead

With the release of Proteus around three months away this is the ideal time for you to start planning your GG purchases. Visit the GG sellers sites, register and find out what is in and out of stock. If you are planning on getting a certain item make sure you also plan on the things you might need/want for it too. There are times when GG products sell out very quickly, so to make sure you don't miss out start preparing now.

For 2014, I predict Imeo will start scaling production up to meet demand. Proteus is going to make big waves in the Ecig world and will hopefully introduce a lot of new vapers to GG mods and tanks. At the same time Imeo has a lot of work on his hands trying to get spares, legacy items, etc produced. You can also be sure that Imeo will be working away on more inventions and creations.

If you are an owner or prospective owner of a GG I hope you are able to get whatever item you are looking for this year. Just remember, start planning now too avoid any disappointment.
