"If you eliminate the voltage problem that small batteries have keeping them steady then there is no problem vaping at 3,6 volts. The bad thing with smaller batteries is the voltage drop, we will not have this now." - Imeo
This is a quote from Imeo on probably the most anticipated Golden Greek mod at the moment, the Variable Voltage Proteus. Imeo still has the mod under wraps and so far the only sighting of it has been a picture I've posted before, said to be a prototype, on the GG wiki. Understandably Imeo is reluctant to release too much information about Proteus before he has it ready for sale. There are some details that can be discovered in various threads although I would not take these as 100% accurate, as there is always a chance things could change in the final design.
So, what do we know so far? The following is an edited list of points made by Imeo in regard to the new GG.
- Proteus will be 100mm in length and 17mm total width
- It will take a 14500 battery
- Proteus will be the first 14500 tube battery holder with electronics to keep the voltage steady, something that those batteries need
- It will be first battery holder mod with removable electronics on it
- It will have a venting cap for safety just like the GGTS
- The tube will be engraved with a deep engraving, (My guess is wings and serial number)
- No springs anywhere inside Proteus (battery or button). Springs are what cause all the problems in any kind of electrical devices
- Adjustable front cap so battery will always make contact even without a spring
- AD control (like GGTS)
- Separate electronic button unit seperate from the main tube, that can be swapped out if electronics fail.
- The button has the following functions:
lock-unlock option
protection if we put battery in the wrong way
short cirquit protection
boost voltage from 3 to 7,4 volts
cut current if button gets pressed more than 14 seconds
flat SS button
From the list we can see that the Proteus will be loaded with features and will receive the high level of attention Imeo gives to all his inventions. I'm pretty sure the main body of the Proteus won't have too many surprises, it's the electronic part most people are interested in.
There are plenty of VV mods in the market now but it will be interesting to see Imeo's unique take on things. Also there are a lot of GG owners using a Kick to vary performance of their mods, so maybe a home grown variable volt GG product could be a springboard to a GGTS/JustGG type add on for VV vaping.
When can we expect the Proteus to be available? Without doubt this is going to be a very popular item bringing GG back in line with current vaping trends. No firm date for release has been given so far but I'd like to finish this article with another quote by Imeo. He posted this yesterday on ECF.
