No news is good news?

If you are waiting on news of Proteus/VIR you might want to look away now. I have summed up the information across a few posts on ECF into the conversation below.

Imeo: "I would be ready Beco but my engineer left town for 2 weeks. Unfortunately he is not dedicated to my product. Sometimes he is thinking the wrong way and he cant understand that my customers are waiting anxiously for VIR. He is excellent on technical issues but very poor on business in general.
Anyway, thats why I dont speak about Proteus the whole last week. I am waiting............"

Q: is he back in town yet?

Imeo: "yes, he is working hard now klepto. He needs 1 week to finish the production. Then I have to test all electronics, one by one"

Q: Imeo, you wrote a long time ago, that you are testing the electronics one by one.
Now you do it again?

Imeo: "Not exactly jail. I tested almost half of them and they had issues. My electronic then left town. Now he is testing them again and then I have to do the same.
Anyway, its a big story. I am giving you dates that I cant keep, so thats over for now because my engineer isnt accurate at all on dates. I will speak again when I will be really ready."

See full thread HERE.

In the history of Golden Greek no project has taken this long or been as hotly anticipated. When it comes to mechanical mods Imeo has been able to produce new products with very little time from inception to creation. But with electronics come a whole new world of difficulties, the size of the board, the design, function of the software, quality testing, etc, etc. All these obstacles have stood in Imeo's way and he is trying his best to get past them.

But, this information does very little for the end users who are anxiously waiting for the latest GG mod. The most comforting news I can give is that Imeo is doing his best to wrap things up and that at the very least things are still moving. We still have no firm release date and until then all we can do is wait and hope Imeo can perform his Greek magic on those illusive chips!

I was pleased to see a return to the GG Pictures thread of Nudelholz this week. Once a regular poster, Nudelholz takes stunning pictures and I have written about him in the past. He has a great website that is well worth visiting for anyone who loves 'vape porn'.

He has a fine collection of vape photo's featuring a variety of mods, all shot with a touch of class and professionalism. If you have a spare minute you can check out his site by clicking the picture above or the link below.

My Vape-anniversary

Yesterday I celebrated reaching the milestone of four years without cigarettes. For those who like to see statistics it means around 29200 cigarettes avoided and somewhere in the region of £8760 saved, based on an average of £6 a pack of 20. When I first started vaping I used a cig-a-like that cost me £10 I think, it performed terribly but from my first try I was hooked. I soon upgraded to an Ego that I used whilst saving up for my first GG, the GGTB. That was my first true mod and I loved it.

Brass 510 GGTB with extra 901 cap
These were the days of dripping on 510 and 901 atomisers, something I loved doing and not a world away from current trends. I have since sold the GGTB, but it was in constant use from the day I got it to the day I regrettably let it go. I also had the original iAtty which I swapped for the Oddy Upgrade Kit. These are the only two GG items I have let go, I'm keeping all the rest, even if I don't use them. I couldn't bear to part with anything else.

I have seen a lot of changes over the years. The range of devices and e liquids has increased massively along with the number of users. There are numerous places to buy your vaping supplies online and in local shops. There has been the growing influx of clones from China, good or bad it has changed the way people vape. Box mods, mechanical, VV, VW, etc, etc are within the reach of nearly everyone now. Vaping has become a lot more serious and a huge industry.

One thing that hasn't changed for me is my love of Golden Greek products. I really appreciate Imeo's attention to detail and his constant drive to give the best he can. This can be demonstrated with VIR and Imeo's push to make vaping a safer experience for all. Proteus with VIR is set to be a big change in our vaping experience, something that a lot of people have been looking forward to for a long time.

GG Esterigon and GG4S

During my vaping journey, Golden Greek products have been among the most highly valued and prized mods on the market. Demand still outweighs supply despite all attempts to remedy this. Without Imeo growing to use industrial size workshops this is a pain we will all have to bear for a while. As I have said in the past though, the fact that GG's are sometimes hard to secure is part of the appeal for me. The stuff Imeo makes get's better every year and I attribute a lot of my success in staying off cigarettes to the fun I've had being a GG user.

Anyway, the last four years without smoking have been great for me. I feel healthier, I don't miss the smell, stained fingers and stress of smoking. Vaping is more than a replacement for smoking to me. It's a hobby that I love and I don't see that changing any time soon. I have no desire to stop, nor even to lower my Nicotine level. I am content to use Nicotine in this form and hope to do so for as long as I can.

It must be said that, as it was when I first started vaping, we are still at a point where the future of vaping is uncertain. I really hope that in another four years I will still be happily vaping. I hope that the powers that be see sense and recognise vaping as part of the biggest change smokers can make to their health. I hope to touch more on this line of thought in a future post. For now I am happy to have stayed the course and proud to be four years smoke free.

Mod Cases

Just saw this on ECF and I had to share it. I don't know if this is available to buy, I couldn't find it on the E-smokeguru site.

I think it looks really good and is something a lot of GG owners could make use of. When carrying more than one GG around it is very easy to end up scratching your mods. With the limited amount of equipment needed to rewick a coil this could easily hold all you'd need for a day out. Let's hope this isn't a one off and that they appear for sale sometime in the future.

While I'm talking of cases I'd like to share another source that I know of. I follow pandoras.gr on Instagram and am impressed with the variety cases on show. Again these are perfect for any GG or mod owner looking for storage and protection. You can see more over on HandMade by Pandoras Facebook page. There are many different designs and colours, well worth checking out if this is something you've been considering.

Proteus Operation Instructions

As we are getting (hopefully) nearer to the release of Proteus I wanted to repost these instructions from ECF. Maybe this will prove useful to anyone planning on purchasing Proteus. I plan on adding images once Proteus is released to make this guide easier to understand.

THE PROTEUS IS IN YOUR HANDS:

1. Battery Installation: Unscrew the brass tube and insert an 14500 IMR battery with the positive side up. Screw the brass tube back in. If the battery fails to make contact, unscrew the venting cap and adjust the small brass bolt inside.

2. Lock the Proteus: After installing the battery, wait six (6) seconds until Proteus locks. A GREEN light will blink several times followed by a BLUE light which stays on for two (2) seconds. The Proteus is now locked.

3. Attach an Atomizer: Connect an atomizer (equipped with a Titanium Grade 1 Coil) to the Proteus.

4. Detect Configuration: Press the button five (5) times in quick succession. The light will blink RED while detecting your configuration. The Proteus has detected your configuration once the light turns ORANGE and remains on for two (2) seconds. This process can take from twenty-five (25) seconds to sixty (60) seconds depending on the temperature of your atomizer.

5. Vape: You're ready to go! Push the button to vape!

LIGHTS THAT WILL APPEAR DURING VAPING:

One (1) short RED blink: The Proteus is vaping at a lower temperature because the battery cannot sustain the set temperature level.

Ten (10) fast GREEN blinks: Your atomizer is fed badly or is running out of liquid. On Golden Greek atomizers, opening the liquid control may resolve the problem. If the problem persists, you probably have to refill your atomizer.

Five (5) slow WHITE blinks: The battery's charge is getting low. Either change your battery or consider moving to a lower temperature to prolong battery life. Also, the five (5) slow WHITE blinks may occur because of bad connection between your battery and Proteus's cap. Please raise the small brass bolt inside the cap.

Steady BLUE light for two (2) seconds: The Proteus is locked because the button was depressed for more than fifteen (15) seconds. To unlock the Proteus, press the button five (5) times in quick succession.

Ten (10) fast RED blinks: Your atomizer has a lower resistance than VIR can handle or your atomizer is shorting. Check your atomizer or make a new coil. Before you make a new coil, wash your atomizer under running water to remove any small pieces of wire that remain from your previous coil set up, which may be shorting it.

Steady ORANGE light for three (3) seconds: Your battery is damaged. Please dont use it anymore and recycle it in the proper way.

MENU:

Note: The working temperature range is 180-280 degrees Celsius. The Proteus remembers all your settings after the battery has been changed.

Up Menu - Increase Temperature: Push the button three (3) times and keep the button depressed for one (1) second. The RED light will stay on. While the RED light is on, push the button one (1) time to increase the temperature by ten (10) degrees Celsius, two (2) times to increase by twenty (20) degrees Celsius, and so on...

Down Menu - Decrease Temperature: Push the button four (4) times and keep the button depressed for one (1) second. The GREEN light will stay on. While the GREEN light is on, push the button one (1) time to decrease the temperature by ten (10) degrees Celsius, two (2) times to decrease by twenty (20) degrees Celsius, and so on...

Lock the Proteus: Push the button five (5) times. A BLUE light will stay on for two (2) seconds, indicating that your Proteus is now locked.

Unlock the Proteus: Push the button five (5) times. A BLUE light will blink three (3) times, indicating that your Proteus is now unlocked.

Check Set Temperature: Go to either the Up or Down Menus and, when either the RED or GREEN lights turn on, release the button. An ORANGE light will start blinking slowly, each blink indicating one step in temperature. Each step is ten (10) degrees Celsius. The total number of blinks will let you know what temperature you are at. One blink indicates 180 degrees Celsius. Two blinks indicates 190 degrees Celsius, and so on...

Stop LED's from Blinking: Push the button one (1) time.

CHANGING THE ATOMIZER:

If you want to vape again on the same atomizer (without changing the coil), lock the Proteus and then disconnect the atomizer. Reconnect this atomizer when you are ready, unlock the Proteus, and vape!

If you want to vape with a different atomizer (or change the coil in existing atomizer), disconnect your OLD atomizer and let Proteus lock by itself. Now connect the NEW atomizer and unlock the Proteus. Wait for it to detect your configuration. The Proteus will blink red while detecting your configuration and the process will finish when an ORANGE light remains on for two (2) seconds. This may take from twenty-five (25) to sixty (60) seconds depending on the temperature of your atomizer. You're ready to vape again!

VERY IMPORTANT TIPS AND TRICKS:

Please operate the Proteus up to 240 Celsius degrees to have a decent battery life. Especially on GG atomizers (Penelopes), you can gain more battery life by NOT opening a lot the liquid control

Keep threads and contacts clean, otherwise your Proteus will not work as you expect.

The threads of the coil must NOT touch each other

The legs of the coil (the distance between coil and posts that keep wires) should be the shortest possible

The coil should be wound tightly, and with uniform tightness, around the entire length of the wick.

Keep all your electrical connections tight.

If the Proteus gets stuck to a menu, release the connection to the battery, wait 3 seconds and reconnect the battery. You will not loose any of your settings.

If the Proteus suddenly starts detecting your configuration, it losts conductivity because of bad connections. Check battery's and atomizer's internal and external connections before start vaping again

Range of Ti wires sizes that are recommended for atomizers which will go on Proteus: 0,20 mm - 0,50 mm.

23. you know when battery is low or out of charge

Pic of the Month March 2015

This months winner is this entry by leemc37. I like the story the picture tells, some hard work with a nice vape as a reward. Its also a nice little set-up, perfect for a no nonsense, easy vape whilst working.

Congrats to leemc37, he gets a 10% discount off his next GG order. I'd like to thank him for a cool picture and also thank all the other people that posted a picture in the GG pictures thread
