Happy New Year!

Last post for this year. There have been a lot of high's for GG owners with some great releases from Imeo. I hope you were able to get your hands on whatever GG item you were after. If not I cross my fingers for you getting it next year.

I have just uploaded the last batch of pictures to My Golden Greek. The quality and quantity of photo's this year has been amazing. I am proud to be able to show them off to anyone who stumbles across the site, although the real credit goes to the user's that post their pictures every month.

Not much more to say, other than to thank Imeo for all he does. Without his innovative designs we would not have such shiny mods to play with. He is an outstanding individual and I am very thankful for the hard work and dedication he puts into his work. Thanks to all the suppliers for their hard work, they deserve a lot more credit than they get. Finally thanks to all GG owners and ecig users. Let's all have a great year in 2014!

All the best,

Lee

Ithaka Dripper and a sneak peek at the Proteus

Just a quick post before we reach the end of the year. Imeo has added a video to his Youtube showing the Ithaka as a dripper. He mentions making a new top/mouthpiece for the Ithaka which would be great as I'm sure a lot of people would like to use the new Ithaka centre parts in drip mode.

What makes this video even more exciting is the device Imeo is using to test the Ithaka on. You can see it at the side of the screen at the start of the video. Later on you will notice the red warning light flashing before Imeo changes the battery. He is very good at keeping it hidden in his hands as he uses it, some top class magician skills there!

This is a great little video for GG users to get excited about. It won't be too long before Proteus is revealed and with the new Ithaka update making more possibilities in terms of vaping, there is a lot to look forward to in the coming year.

GG Proteus - the wait is nearly over

"If you eliminate the voltage problem that small batteries have keeping them steady then there is no problem vaping at 3,6 volts. The bad thing with smaller batteries is the voltage drop, we will not have this now." - Imeo

This is a quote from Imeo on probably the most anticipated Golden Greek mod at the moment, the Variable Voltage Proteus. Imeo still has the mod under wraps and so far the only sighting of it has been a picture I've posted before, said to be a prototype, on the GG wiki. Understandably Imeo is reluctant to release too much information about Proteus before he has it ready for sale. There are some details that can be discovered in various threads although I would not take these as 100% accurate, as there is always a chance things could change in the final design.

So, what do we know so far? The following is an edited list of points made by Imeo in regard to the new GG.

  • Proteus will be 100mm in length and 17mm total width
  • It will take a 14500 battery
  • Proteus will be the first 14500 tube battery holder with electronics to keep the voltage steady, something that those batteries need
  • It will be first battery holder mod with removable electronics on it
  • It will have a venting cap for safety just like the GGTS
  • The tube will be engraved with a deep engraving, (My guess is wings and serial number)
  • No springs anywhere inside Proteus (battery or button). Springs are what cause all the problems in any kind of electrical devices
  • Adjustable front cap so battery will always make contact even without a spring
  • AD control (like GGTS)
  • Separate electronic button unit seperate from the main tube, that can be swapped out if electronics fail.
  • The button has the following functions:

                        lock-unlock option
protection if we put battery in the wrong way
                        short cirquit protection
boost voltage from 3 to 7,4 volts
cut current if button gets pressed more than 14 seconds
                        flat SS button

From the list we can see that the Proteus will be loaded with features and will receive the high level of attention Imeo gives to all his inventions. I'm pretty sure the main body of the Proteus won't have too many surprises, it's the electronic part most people are interested in.

There are plenty of VV mods in the market now but it will be interesting to see Imeo's unique take on things. Also there are a lot of GG owners using a Kick to vary performance of their mods, so maybe a home grown variable volt GG product could be a springboard to a GGTS/JustGG type add on for VV vaping.

When can we expect the Proteus to be available? Without doubt this is going to be a very popular item bringing GG back in line with current vaping trends. No firm date for release has been given so far but I'd like to finish this article with another quote by Imeo. He posted this yesterday on ECF.

"Soon they will find a great home Its (GG forum member). Proteus experiments come to an end. I hope that in about less than 10 days I will be able to show you something very very special. No other electronic device is made like this." - Imeo

Pic of the Month December

HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL THE GG FAMILY

An easy and early pick this month for Picture of the Month. I knew this would be the one as soon as I saw it. The winning photo is by CaptSteve, a very knowledgeable and much appreciated member on the GG forum. He is always around to offer advice, encouragement and general good banter. From my dealings with the Captain I can say he is a totally great guy and a true GG aficionado. As a side note  being a pilot, I suspect he is probably one of the only people on the planet who has enjoyed a decent vape with a GG while airborne.

Well done CaptSteve, this is a really nice picture, showing two of the newest additions to the GG line. Also check out the 0001 serial number on that JustGG, pretty sweet. I've added the Captain's original message to the bottom of the photo, with the same best wishes from me to all GG owners, Past, Present and Future!

UFS Lives Again!

One of the reasons I use only GG items is the total faith I have in each piece. I know if I have a problem there is usually an easy fix or I can get help from the more experienced members on the ECF forum. Failing that I could get back to the sellers or even Imeo himself. Imeo goes to great lengths to provide excellent customer service to all GG owners, new and old.

So despite having some other e-cig hardware tucked away in drawers, I do only use GG products now. I can't even remember the last time I bought a carto or an atomiser. A while back I found the perfect set up for me, with my Odysseus. I make up a single coil at about 1ohm and that suits me fine, normally lasting a few days before the coil needs changing.

I'm not really over obsessed when it comes to making coils. If it vapes, it'll do. I am slightly jealous of some of the amazing set-ups I see people putting together but my skill or equipment hasn't let me replicate those builds so far. Anyway during any cleaning or rebuilding of my Oddy I like to use my Penelope (edit-and now V2 too) or Ithaka.

I also have a UFS that I would love to keep in use too but I damaged the bottom cup somehow and now it wont tighten any more. I had an alert on e-smokeguru set to notify me when that particular part was in stock again. Last week I got that notification so I quickly went online and put my order in. After struggling with getting the payment to go through I had to drop Vassilis an email, to which he replied with an alternative payment option. The rest of the process went smoothly with all the other regular confirmation and receipt emails, followed a few days after with tracking details.

Tracking information showing every step along the way.

I am always super impressed with the service I get from e-smokeguru and highly recommend them for your GG stuff. Make sure you use the 'Notify Me' buttons for items not in stock, it really saves time and stress when looking for something in particular.

As I'm writing this my package is on it's way to me and my UFS is sitting here in pieces, ready for assembly. So I am off to set up my UFS for the first time in months, it seems like much longer. There is nothing like hitting that perfect sweet spot with a finely tuned UFS, the only thing is, I'll have to buy some atomisers again.

*Last minute update!

My package arrived as I was leaving the house so the UFS is whole again. I need to see if I have any old 510 atomisers anywhere but I'm just glad to see it all in one piece again. On the left in the picture you can just about see where I messed up my threads trying to fix the bottom cup.

Also I received the Ithaka update which looks superb, lot's of GG experimenting going on tonight I think!

Coming Soon

Ithaka Update

It has been a very good year for Golden Greek owners with the release of JustGG and Penelope V2 being two of the highlights. Imeo manages to keep interest and demand high for everything he develops despite the growing number of other mods available. I am always pleasantly surprised with the way Imeo can invent or re-invent a product, JustGG is a good example of this.

Despite the fairly recent release of his last creations Imeo shows no sign of slowing down and has more aces up his sleeve. The first is something I have been secretly hoping for, the Ithaka update. It will enable coil making in a much simpler way, doing away with the need for NR wire. Check out this video to see what I mean.

I think this new part will be very popular and will help save time and money for those making their own coils. Although it looks like a complicated set up remember once it is assembled you will only need to re-coil when required, not do a full build of the part.

Proteus

Another release that is building anticipation is the new variable voltage Proteus. I have not really tried VV vaping myself apart from stacking batteries and using a pass-thru but I understand that there are a huge number of VV fans out there. The inclusion of the Proteus into the GG line will mean there is a GG for just about all vapers.

As usual Proteus will have a serial number for which there is a thread on ECF for those wanting to register a particular number. I'm not sure when the Proteus will be released but it is not too far away now. There is not a lot of information available for Proteus which is understandable with the cloning situation but there is this one picture from the wiki.

Proteus prototype with Penelope

I think it looks pretty nice with that Penelope and the idea of being able to dial in your perfect set up seems too good to miss. I really can't wait to see the final version and see what users have to say about it.

The only question now is what next? Imeo always finds some way of surprising everyone so I'm sure whatever comes next will be great. In the meantime we have some exciting new additions to look forward to.

Useful links for New GG users.

I was thinking about web sites I visit and thought it might be a good idea to list a few of the sites I use for anyone who has just got a GG or is interested in buying one. The following links are where you can find Golden Greek products, information, general supplies, etc.

Buying Golden Greek products

In my opinion the best place to get genuine GG products is from the official sellers. If the item you want is not in stock all the sellers sites have a 'Notify me' button. When a new item is released there is normally a pre-order where you can secure that item before the general sale starts.

The next three links are for the Official Sellers and are the first places you should look when searching for a GG product.

Clouds Of Vapor  Based in the USA No longer a GG supplier

FluidVapor Based in the USA

e-smokeguru Based in Greece

Bitfumo  Based in Italy

If you are after something a bit more individual there are often some GG's for sale at the unofficial Vaperev. As well as the normal GG's Vaperev sell some custom GG's. These are GG's that have been decorated by master engraver Otto Carter. I have written more about Otto HERE. Be warned the prices for the engraved GG's reflect the exclusivity and craftmanship!

The final option would be to search forum classifieds but beware of possible stings and over inflated prices.

Supplies

I use GG rebuildables probably 95% of the time so next up are a few sites I use for wire and wick. The increasing interest in rebuildable atomisers means you can find supplies nearly everywhere now.  Lots of e-cig shops sell pre made coils and reels of wire and wick but it can be more cost effective to buy in larger amounts.

A quick Google search should return plenty of vendors selling all you'll need but these two companies are the one's I use.

wires.co.uk

The Vape Mesh Company

I have used both of these sites and have found each one very reliable and their products of excellent quality.

I won't list e-liquid suppliers as there are too many to choose from, although I will say that I tend to go for 100ml bottles as it works out cheaper in the long run.

Pic of the Month November

As usual there were a lot of very good pictures posted this month. And as usual it was hard to pick one picture I thought stood out. In the end I chose this one from ManniGfaltig in Germany. I love the mix of metals and the contrast of old against the new.

Congrats Manni on a great picture and a nice couple of GG's.
