Happy New Year

A quick post before I go out to celebrate the new year. Whatever you're doing and wherever you are I wish you a very Happy New Year and all the best for 2015. Thanks for visiting and reading my blog, I plan on making it bigger and better next year and already have some plans in motion.

As far as Golden Greek is concerned, Imeo has a few things lined up which I'll cover in a future post and there are some exciting GG releases on the horizon. For now though enjoy the last day of 2014 and I'll see you next year!

All the best,

Lee

New GG Seller

There is a new GG seller, this one in Spain. Imeo announced the news on ECF recently but I only just caught it. You can visit the site at this link.

The Golden Greek Store

The site is looking good and has some stock listed, I'm sure it will have more stuff as they grow. I wish them every success, it's always nice to have more buying choices.

Merry Christmas - Happy Holidays

Not much to update on for the last couple of days. Sales of the GG4S seem to have gone well with lots of people very happy with their devices. I saw the 4S below on ECF. Shiny version looks really nice although this was done by it's owner - Telephunken in Madrid. He is also responsible for the amazing GG4S video at the bottom of this post.

With VIR, Proteus, Tilemahos V2 and perhaps more to look forward to, next year should start with a bang. This year has been an incredible year for Golden Greek and I hope next year brings us even more devices and surprises.

Anyway no matter what your religion or how you celebrate this time of year, I wish you all the best. I will be busy the next few days but will try to keep you updated with any new developments.

EDIT

There is also this GG4S by mrZoSo who might have been the first with a shiny 4S. I thought I better add it so people could see it. Both of the polishing jobs are outstanding so kudos to both users.

Cloud Chasing Revisited

Since I last wrote about cloud chasing I have been doing a lot of research and experimenting. I said previously that I shouldn't knock something until I tried it. Well I've tried it and......it's very addictive. I had got a monster of a mod from my wife as a gift, you can see it below. It's a Dreadnaught clone, I know - I know, don't shoot me. Anyway I've been trying sub ohm builds on it as it's built like a tank, if anything went wrong it wouldn't be one of my GG's that got wrecked.

The first thing that surprised me was how easy it is to get nice thick, clouds of vapour. Dropping under my usual 1 ohm limit produced immediate results. Nothing competition worthy but satisfying none the less. I began running two set ups, Dreadnaught sub ohm and GG with Ithaka around 1ohm. Both have their advantages but I preferred the GG as it was giving more flavour. And less of a strain on my arms, that Dreadnaught is HEAVY!

What I needed was something in between the two set ups, a nice small GG capable of some good sub ohm builds that could take a small dripper on top. I know if I really wanted to I could do a sub ohm build on any of the tanks I have but I would rather use something with a three post set up. Anyway along came the GG4S, the answer to my problem. It really is a fantastic mod, the more I look at it and use it, the more I love it.

I have a Dark Horse dripper that fits perfectly on the GG4S so I was ready to try some GG sub ohming. My results are total awesomeness. Huge clouds, great flavour and at the same time a very good looking mod. It is amazing how something so small performs so well. I have been alternating between lung hits and mouth to lung and found I enjoy both equally. I never thought trying sub ohm builds could change my vaping experience so much.

I was wrong about cloud chasing, it's a culture all of it's own and one that I judged wrongly. Cloud chasing is not for everyone but it offers a great addition to the vaping community. It is very much to do with being cool and sometimes even sexy. Another big part of it is fun. It's enjoyable and there's an exciting edge to it. I've found so many new vapers, shops and different mods I've never seen before. It has been a revelation.

I'm learning more as I go along but wanted to share my experience so far with you. I'm on a bit of a cloud chasing high at the moment and this GG4S with a Dark Horse is really blowing me away. If you get a chance try it out, it's an awesome set up.

One last thing. A quick reminder that I have some clothing for sale over at 160GEAR. I'm the sort of person who hates to promote my own stuff but the search engine for Spreadshirt doesn't bring my shop up. I think it's invisible. If you need some new vaping threads visit the shop by clicking the picture below. Thanks!

GG4S - First Impressions

I have been lucky enough to get my hands on the hottest new GG mod, the small, the beautiful GG4S. I want to share my first impressions not a review as I haven't got any atties set up at the moment I can really test it with. I did quickly try my Tilemahos on it and it hits really hard but as I have the GG4S without AD I couldn't really give it a proper test.

GG4S with an 18650 battery

The size is really impressive. Small and light but very well made. The very clean lines of the flat top and bottom give the GG4S a classy look. With a nice flush fitting RDA this will look amazing. The use of space is clever too, hardly any extra length added with a battery inside. It's also very easy to adjust for the length of your battery, just twist and go.

GG4S top and GG4S next to Esterigon

The 'upside down' logo doesn't really bother me, I understand what Imeo wanted to do although the way I hold it I couldn't see the logo while using the GG4S. I will say that the logo itself is very finely made, a lot more detail is visible compared to the CNC work on the Tilemahos for example. If I had a choice I would have preferred the logo right side up but that is a minor quibble. The button the logo is engraved on is very easy to use, either with a pinky or your palm. It's nice and soft too so there is no huge amount of force needed to use it.

GG4S firing cap with 'upside down' logo

The threads on the tubes of GG4S are some of the finest theads I've seen. They are perfectly smooth and there is no resistance when adjusting the tubes. The feel of the threads add to the feel of the device, giving it the impression of being a high end device. The threads are really nice in operation.

GG4S threads

Overall my first impression of the GG4S is very positive. There are a lot of people that really like the simpler types of mod. Clean lines and simple construction is very stylish and very fashionable right now. The GG4S fills a small gap in the GG line up for people looking for something sleek to put their atties on. The ease of use with both the button and the tubes is great. No need for messing about trying to get the device set up, you simply twist into position and you're set.

GG4S

I think of all the GG's I own the GG4S is one of the coolest. Small, light, understated and good looking. GG4S is very worthy of a place in the GG range. I love how easy it is to use and how smart it looks and would recommend this to anyone considering buying one.

Once again I must thank Imeo and Vasillis for getting this to me. Two very fine gentlemen!

GG4S - Available Soon

E-smokeguru have posted product images of the GG4S, a good sign that they will be available soon. On the website the GG4S is listed under three headings. They are all described as 'monkey style' which is a name given to them by Vasillis. Apparently the way you fire the button reminds him of monkeys! I've cobbled the three images into one so it's easier to compare them.

Images from e-smokeguru

  1. GG4S (Monkey Style) without air control
  2. GG4S (Monkey Style) with air control and SS CR
  3. GG4S (Monkey Style) with air control and Brass CR

I have scaled the images together as the GG4S on the right was photographed a little closer than the other two. This gave the impression that it is a lot bigger. I think they look really good, I can't wait to see what people will be putting on top of them.

Talking of atomisers, Imeo has said he's working on Tilemahos V2 which will be 22mm to fit GG4S. I use my V1 Tilemahos daily and I think it's perfect. It will be interesting to see what improvements Imeo comes up with.

GG4S should be available very soon from e-smokeguru and shortly afterwards from fluid and bitfumo. Keep your eyes glued to your preferred vendor for announcements.

EDIT* E-smokeguru will be selling GG4S 16th December at 18:30 Greek time.

More information on the GG4S

It seems that the revelation of Imeo's surprise project has gone down well with users. A new GG is always welcome and GG4S has ticked the boxes for a lot of users. The design is a departure from the usual GG trend and fits in very well with current mod trends. A clean lined, small mod will go down very well with those seeking a more minimal look.

Golden Greek 4S

Here is a quick recap on some of the more important points from the new GG4S thread on ECF. All the information comes from posts Imeo has made.

  • The price has been stated as 79 euros
  • The mod has a length of 76mm and a width of 22mm
  • To surprise GG fans Imeo posted his GG4S video one week before the sale date. This means e-smokeguru will have it on sale in around a week or less and Gino(bitfumo) and Rob(fluid) in about 15 days or less.
  • VIR will not work with GG4S as Imeo didnt want to add any more length to make it compatible with VIR.
  • I made half of GG4S with AD cap and half with the other cap
  • The next batch of GG4S might be made to fit an 18500 and 18350 battery
  • The AD ring has 4 cuts around it so GG4S doesnt roll on flat surfaces.
  • Imeo has said he will be working on Tilemahos V2 to match GG4S
  • So far Imeo says GG4S will be available in only a matt finish

The GG4S looks to me like it sits somewhere between the Stealth and Esterigon. It's a mod that will suit a lot of users and with a very reasonable price point it is a good way for people to get into owning a GG. There are a lot of 22mm atomisers around that would look perfect with a GG4S, the possibilities are endless. The fact that it holds an 18650 and still remains so compact will make this an amazing little mod.

Finally a little news on Proteus. Imeo says in the GG4S thread that his engineer tells him he will be ready in about three days. What he means by this I'm not sure but it sounds as though things are getting back on track. A post Christmas release date is still looking good.

GG4S - New mod from Imeo

While most modders would be happy after finishing development of their latest projects Imeo seems to be always on the go. As we wait for Proteus to get back on track Imeo has been working on a new GG and has released a new video detailing it. Here's a couple of quick screen grabs of the latest mod. The first shows the parts and the second picture shows the GG4S next to a GG Stealth.

What's incredible is that the GG4S in the second picture has an 18650 battery inside and is only a few  millimetres taller than the Stealth with an 18350. The mod has very minimal extra length, keeping it small but still fully functional.

In Imeo's video he covers the points he considered when designing the GG4S, I've summarised the main points here.

Imeo's list of features-
  • very small
  • simple device
  • inexpensive
  • full featured
  • no gaps
  • accept all 18650 batteries
  • can take 2x18350 batteries stacked
  • small voltage drop no plating
  • air control
  • auto adjustable centre post, removable for cleaning
  • locking mechanism
  • easy to use from all angles
  • adjustable button
  • side venting holes
  • stable on flat surface
  • engraving matches
  • easy to clean
  • made from very few pieces no tiny parts
  • great conductivity
So we now know the new creation will be a front button mod called GG4S. The name stems from the fact it will be made from only four pieces. These pieces will be large and easy to use although the total length is only 76mm, making this one of the smallest mods available. As usual this will be a popular mod with GG fans, especially those looking for a GG mod with a nice clean look. Check out the full video below.

317L Stainless Steel Resistance Wire

I recently ordered myself some resistance wire as I wanted to try a thicker gauge than I normally use. The wire I have been using is Kanthal ribbon wire and although I get good results from it I fancied a change. As usual I ordered from the Vape Mesh Company as I find their price and quality very good. The 317L wire is a nice thick gauge and is soft enough to keep it's shape when winding coils.

In researching the wire before I bought it I found some controversy comparing it to the much higher priced Gplat wire. I got 25 meters/82 feet of 317L for £3.49/$5.48, for 4.57 meters/15ft of Gplat it costs £8.62/$13.50. I am not saying the wires are the same composition but there are numerous threads in online forums comparing the two. The prices are certainly very different.

Anyway, since receiving the 317L I have been able to make a few really good coils, a lot better than the Kanthal coils I had been used to making. The wire is so easy to work with I am actually enjoying making coils a lot more and the flavour is as good as any other wire I've used. I recommend this wire if you haven't tried it before.

I have been in touch with the Vape Mesh Company to see if there is any chance of them stocking Titanium wire too. If I hear anything back from them I'll update this thread. Titanium and Stainless steel are the only wires that will work with the upcoming VIR/Proteus so I'm eager to secure a source for these wire types.

If you want to try this wire you can find it at the following link.

New GG on the way?

Imeo recently asked in the Proteus thread for suggestions from people on what they would like to see incorporated into a new GG. Various answers were given and in reply Imeo posted this response.
"sure Zu, I heard and I think that I made exactly what you want. You will like it very much. In 2 days I will make a video about it and you will see for one more time how GG line makes exactly what people like. New, different, innovated. Just the way you like it!"
I'm still amazed at how Imeo manages to squeeze in more products at the same time as developing others. We'll see in two days what he's come up with, I'm crossing my fingers for a box mod. Whatever it is, hopefully it will help fill the gap until Proteus is ready.

160GEAR - New Shop

Along with Golden Greek products one of my other big loves is art and design so I have decided to put my skills to use and have started an online shop. I will be designing Vape related gear, adding more products as time goes on. For now I just have a couple of items.

I am hoping to grow this idea into something great, it's something I've always wanted to do. If you have a spare minute I'd really appreciate it if you could check the shop out. You can click the image above or the following link.

Instagram

I have signed up for Instagram to post a few pictures for anyone interested. The link is at the top of the page. I plan on taking a picture every day if possible, just for something to do when I run out of things to say.

Here's today's picture. I have been trying out different builds to try and make a cool looking GG. I really like the monster drip tip on this. Sadly it's not a working build. The air holes on the Igo are too small to make this practical. I had bought the Igo for my wife to use but she hasn't even touched it so I might drill out the air holes when I get hold of a drill.

GG RDA

Before you get too excited this is just another of my GG wishes. There is no GG RDA at the moment but I think there should be. It is possible to drip on all of the GG tanks but a proper dripping atty has not surfaced yet. There are quite a few RDA's on the market now and it seems dripping is very popular with all types of users.

The last time I dripped regularly was when I used low resistance 901's on my GGTB. Dripping is a great way of getting good flavour and nice clouds as well as a good way of jumping from one juice to another. A GG RDA could follow current design trends like in the example above. With the new rebuildable parts it is possible to make a great coil but they're not really designed as drippers. A more traditional coil deck would increase user options, allowing for some of the more weird and wonderful coil designs. Even changing to the more common phillips screw type would be a huge help.

Another possibility is for Imeo to have negative posts that are milled in to the design such as the one below. This helps with conductivity and makes for a more solid construction. There is also the possibility of Imeo completely reworking the RDA design and applying his special touch to it. I'm sure Imeo could come up with a dripper to rival anything available right now.

At the end of the day though I know a dripper isn't really on Imeo's radar and this will probably be a dream that never comes true, but it's always nice to dream. I just wish I could make a decent dual coil set up, something I find very difficult with my current GG options.

One last thing, Imeo has said that he has his machines working on another project and that he will show everyone in a video, possibly next week. I don't think he would make a video for an existing product so it has to be something new in my opinion. So keep an eye out for something new soon, it might be a GG Christmas after all.

Proteus delayed

Just some quick news for those that haven't heard. Imeo has a problem with one of his machines that he is using to assemble Proteus. The machine needs to be fixed before he can continue any work on Proteus.

Unfortunately this means there will be a delay with the release of Proteus, now due sometime after the new year. While this is bad news for those waiting for Proteus at the very least it means Proteus will eventually be made correctly.

This may be a blessing in disguise, as others have pointed out, Christmas post is unreliable at best. Hopefully the faulty machine is up and running soon bringing us one step closer to seeing a Proteus for sale. As many people already know, technology moves fast, I would hate to see too many delays, rendering Proteus redundant before it's even released.

I'll keep my fingers crossed and my eyes open for any more developments.

Pic Of the Month November 2014

This months winner is the appropriately named RiverNut with this fantastic outdoor picture. The  GGTB Woodie looks totally at home in it's surroundings. I wish I had this sort of scenery close to where I live, I love the great outdoors and it doesn't get much better than this picture.

Well done River for a great GG and an awesome photo, I am officially jealous!
