Pics & News

Firstly, here are a couple of pictures I wanted to share with you. The first is by Alexandros Derpoulis and features a great collection of nicely polished GG's.

The next is an updated picture of the custom JustGG owned by Joshua.T.Clark. I featured this GG previously here. I think the blue accents really work well and make this a real conversation starter.

News

Regarding any other GG news - there is none. Imeo has been very quiet, in fact I've never known it to be this quiet. Obviously Proteus and VIR are huge undertakings and a lot more complicated than the normal GG products. Hopefully Imeo will make some headway soon and we'll start getting some updates on production status for all the GG projects going on at the moment.

There's still time to post your pictures in the GG pictures thread over on ECF, I will be collecting all of Septembers pics and uploading them to My Golden Greek soon. I've had a quick look through the thread and there are some really good pictures this month.

Finally, something Imeo does nearly every month is have a competition on ECF to win a GG product of his choosing. It's usually a guess the picture competition and isn't too difficult. You can see the last competition HERE, just remember to keep checking back for October's competition.

Shout Outs - Some useful UK links

Firstly, I have no news on anything GG related to report. It's still very quiet on the GG forum. This probably means Imeo is very busy getting things done that need doing. Unfortunately we will just have to wait a little while longer to find out what those things are. On the plus side I have been able to redecorate my house without falling too far behind with what's going on in GG land.

I have been vaping for a few years now, long enough to have used a few vaping sites and grown familiar with the good and bad. I would not have lasted this long without some of these sites so I would like to give a shout out and my personal recommendation to some of them. As always I suggest using official GG sellers for GG related stuff.

Forums

When I first started vaping I joined a couple of forums early on. As I got more familiar with them I ended up using just two of them, the obvious one being ECF. But the forum where I found my vaping wings was All About E Cigarettes.  Through 'AAEC' I found two of the nicest people I know, Chrissie and Mandy aka Perpetua and all the information I needed to get starting in vaping. The forum is run by Chrissie and her team of capable mods and is a great forum for new and old vapers alike. Lots of great information and loads of friendly vapers make it a nice place to go, whatever you are looking for.

Suppliers

The next few links are all suppliers I have used at some point in the past and received great customer service from. If you are looking for decent vape supplies in the UK these are all worth a look.

Some of these may ship outside of the UK, you should check each sites shipping information. As mentioned I have used all of these suppliers and have never had a problem.

If you have any recommended links you would like me to post contact me HERE and I will consider your links/lists. I especially welcome links in countries outside of the UK to help GG vapers everywhere.

Clone Wars - a never ending cycle

Golden Greek products have never been low budget items, that is no secret. The prices are in the top end of the market for a good reason. GG products are custom designed, well engineered, original items. They are collectors items, treasured mods and for a lot of people, a piece of vaping luxury we reward ourselves with after making the switch from regular cigarettes. For me, owning a GG is nothing to do with being elitist. We are all vapers, from the newly converted with a cheap kit to the vapers with mods costing in the hundreds. Yes, I am a GG fan, I only use GG's, I blog about GG's, they are my vaping life. But I can still appreciate a good mod or tank when I see one. But when it comes to owning a GG, I will only ever use the real deal.

Clones like the one's pictured above  and below are everywhere. Watches, fashion, perfume, mobile technology, every industry has their own imitators producing clones. Importantly and more relevant to us, there are clones of mods and tanks showing up quite regularly now. Not just GG's but all of the popular high end mods have been cloned and are available online, easily findable with a five minute search. There are copies, mods that borrow design ideas and mods that copy every detail, down to logos and serial numbers. Some are very close visually to the real thing, others are obviously lacking in quality, both in construction and materials. Speaking to Imeo in the past about clones he said was aware of them and that there was not much he could do.

My 2 cents

Looking online you will find thousands of vaping items for sale. There is something for every budget, including high end mods at low end prices. Way back when I first discovered GG's they were very hard to get hold of. It would have been very tempting to buy a cheap look-a-like had they been more widely available then. So are clones an easier way for those not willing to pay full price for an original, to experience the mod they would like? The problem as I see it is buying a clone will never be the same as buying the real deal. There is a certain satisfaction in owning something that is 100% authentic especially with Golden Greek products. You can feel the great build quality and appreciate the fine machining that goes into every piece.

I've never seen a clone in the flesh but I'm certain the quality of copies can not compare to a real Golden Greek. Let's say though that a clone was able to match the build quality of an original GG, no matter how good it looks and feels, it would still be a fake. That for me is the most important part. I don't buy original because I'm a snob, elitist, etc. I do it because I only want original GG parts. I do it because I want to support my friend Imeo. I do it because I want to and that's my choice, just as you have your choice to do what you want.

Clones are everywhere now and there is no sign of them disappearing. It has become part of vaping culture. I'd like to make clear that I have nothing against people who buy clones. They have their own valid reasons and it would be wrong of me to expect anyone else to conform to my way of thinking. I would never want to prejudge someone for their buying choices, just as I hope I am not judged for mine. I don't agree with the practice of taking someone's work, reproducing it and selling it without any regard for the original inventor. That is something that doesn't sit well with me. There are no easy answers though. All I will say is that in my opinion you can not beat owning a real, Greek designed, Greek made, Golden Greek.

General GG chat and updates

First off I'd like to share this picture I saw over on my feed on My Golden Greek G+ page. It was taken by ALEXANDROS- “giuftou” .DERPOULIS. With the new range of rebuildables, it's easy to forget about older tank versions. The UFS has always been a favourite of mine so this is a photo  I really appreciate. I just wish Imeo had gone forward with his Achilles, my UFS could really use one.

World Vaping Day

Next thing I'd like to mention is World Vaping Day. Apparently it is today, so all the best to all vapers out there, whatever mod you use. There's more information about it and a lot more besides, at the site below.

JustGG & Stealth

Imeo has posted a bit more information on the upcoming changes to JustGG and Stealth's, that are in production. The differences for justGG are new engraving - deep CNC style. It will only have GG wings around the tube. The battery post is simpler without the steel cover, plastic and o-ring. The collector tank will be slightly different with a new ring that works more like the ring on Esterigon.

The Stealth will also have the same CNC engraving and venting cap as the JustGG above. It will now come as a one piece tube, doing away with the rethreader. Both JustGG and Stealth will come without serial numbers, as was previously stated.

Ithaka's in production have not changed.

Proteus

With regard to Proteus Imeo gave this answer today, in response to a request for an ETA.

"I really don't know blue. Maybe its one month maybe 6 months. It depends on how quickly I will solve all the issues. Maybe I can make a VW device first because its very easy to be done..."

It sounds like Proteus is still giving Imeo headaches so I'm not expecting any news on it for a while. Imeo has managed to knock out some great devices while working on Proteus, maybe he will continue to do this. I just hope he catches a break soon as this project has a lot of people holding their breath.

E-cigs on the Big Screen

Finally I read a news story about an e-cig company based in Canada having their e-cigs used in an upcoming movie. It stars one of my favourite actresses, Milla Jovovich, who uses an e-cig throughout the film.

It got me wondering again about the mystery GG owner who is very famous. I'm sure there must be a few celebs owning GG's, I know there are quite a few who vape now. Who knows, one day we might see a GG at the movies.

The news story goes in depth about smoking and movies with a lot of interesting figures. You can read more about the news article HERE.

Tilemahos - New stock at e-smokeguru

Just a quick post to let you know that Tilemahos will be available at e-smokeguru tomorrow from 18:00 Greek time. There will also be 'a lot of spares' to buy at the same time. So if you missed the last batch or are looking to get extras for any of your existing GG items, check out e-smokeguru tomorrow.

One other piece of exciting news. In a post on ECF Imeo has hinted that he is working on a new GG design. We will probably hear more about it when Imeo is ready but at the moment it sounds like he is working hard to get Proteus finished, as well as overseeing the production of the latest batch of JustGG, Stealth and Ithaka.

Drip Tips - What's your preference?

After reading that there would be a drip tip option for Tilemahos I did a web search to see if I could find anything that would be worthy enough to sit on top of the latest GG creation. I can tell you that the number of drip tips available is mind numbing, ranging from the sublime to the ridiculous. I found drip tips of every shape, size and finish. Whatever your mod of choice, whatever the finish and colour, there is a drip tip out there for you. Here are some of my findings.

The tip above is one from 'jus tha tip', a US site dedicated to drip tips run by Jerry Goodwin and his wife Melissa. The tips on sale are custom, hand made and very unique. They make a variety of drip tips in different finishes and styles, all of which would look good on any mod.

www.justhatip.com

The next site is based here in the UK and features a lot of drip tips that are more in the style of Golden Greek mods. There are tips in stainless steel, brass and other finishes, featuring a clean and simple machined look. These are the types of tips I have always chosen as I think they compliment a GG really well. They have a huge range on offer and seem to be of a very good quality, so worth checking out.

Finally these last drip tips I found over on ECF. Again these are hand made, custom pieces which look to be well made and worth a look. They are made by forum member ohman who has a whole thread about them at he following link.

Disclaimer!

I have not used any of these suppliers before, nor have I been paid in any way to promote them. They are just a few of the many suppliers I found whilst doing a bit of research. There are of course many other retailers out there.

GG Drip Tips

After looking at drip tips for over an hour it got me thinking about why Imeo hasn't brought out a drip tip or two yet. He has the means to manufacture them and I'm more than sure he has enough o'rings to spare. I'm also sure that if Imeo applied his lateral thinking to the design he could come up with something really cool. Maybe sometime in the future he'll find time in between projects to make a GG drip tip, something I would surely buy, what about you?

It's quiet.....too quiet

There's not much happening on the GG forum at the moment. Imeo has been popping in and out, answering the odd question but after the excitement of Esterigon and Tilemahos it feels very quiet. Hopefully this lull in activity is giving Imeo all the time he needs to get on top of Proteus and that software problem. One thing I know is being worked on is the latest production run of existing items and spares.

Here is a small list of what is expected from the next GG production run. A run which should be helped by Imeo's recent purchase of a second CNC machine.

  • Tilemahos should be back in stock sometime later next week. This is based on an estimate by Imeo and could change, however make sure you are ready for a release if you are looking to buy one.
  • The Tilemahos hybrid base for Esterigon should be available soon. No word on how many will be produced so again, be ready to snap one up if the all in one look is something you want to achieve.
  •  A new Drip tip mouthpiece for Tilemahos is in production. It features a new mouthpiece and a new refilling cap. Perfect for anyone with a cool drip tip collection.

The proposed Preorder for parts will not take place now. There was going to be too much confusion as well as too much work for the machine shop. Instead of the Preorder Imeo will be making JustGG in SS and brass, Stealth (which will now be a single piece body) in SS and brass and another run of Ithaka along with the new rebuildable part.

Spares for the JustGG, Stealth and Ithaka will also be produced. One thing to note is that this run of JustGG and Stealth's will not have serial numbers, perhaps to counter the headache of user serial number requests. They will also have different engraving to previous editions.

Finally, other spares in production include AD pins for Penelope and Ithaka, Plastics for GGTS, internal parts for GGTS and 'other pieces for several GG constructions'. So, although not producing a full catalogue of spares, there should be at least some of what you need in this latest batch.

Proteus - register your number

It feels like a very long time since Proteus was announced and although there is still no firm release date, we are nearer to the end than the beginning of development. As much as we want Imeo to announce a date he is making sure everything is perfect for the release.

One thing you can do while you wait is to get a serial number, if that is important to you. There is a thread over on ECF with all the numbers that are taken. If you can find a number that isn't taken you just need to post a comment asking for it. Imeo will then reply, letting you know if it is available.

I don't envy any of the sellers when Proteus is revealed as sorting out all the parts and matching them to customers is going to be a huge undertaking. I think the option of choosing a serial number is great for end users, not so great for production and sellers. I'm sure I read somewhere that the next batch of JustGG and Stealth will have no serials, so make the most of this chance to get your unique number.

Modding the GG - Some great examples

When I first started using GG's I remember falling in love with all the pictures I found of them. Some of the best photographed examples were from dspin and CaptSteve among others. They made the GG look awesome, like looking at a photo of a rare Ferrari. Polished up and pristine, I always enjoyed seeing what people did to look after their collections.

As well as the shiny examples I soon found other not so shiny pictures. Some of these first customisations were a result of the reaction of early GG's to the natural chemicals in a users hands. This would result in a blackening of the finish. To combat this some users took to using tape on their GG's. Despite the low-tech approach some of these taped up GG's actually looked ok.

Perhaps it was the need of users to use tape that persuaded Imeo to switch to stainless steel in the construction of the GG.

With the introduction of stainless steel, new methods of customisation began to show up. People were getting them custom plated resulting in some of the nicest looking mods you will ever see. One of the best custom jobs was this GG and UFS from Vaypor_Phi. It is a fully gold plated SSGGTS + UFS in both 24K and Pure White gold. Everything is gold including the internal springs.

Engraving and media blasting were also popular methods of altering the look of a GG. In the following pictures you can see examples of this. The second picture features a finish by Justin at Vape'n'Shine. The last is a custom job by the super talented Otto Carter.

The finish above was done by mother nature. Read more HERE.

Wood was also used to enhance the GG's character, as can be seen in the following picture. These fantastic GGTB's were made by Torqueguy from ecf. I'm not sure what the status on production is but you can find more info HERE.

Today the most commonly used method of customising the GG takes no effort at all. Imeo supplies most parts in both brass and stainless steel with a few different finishes. This makes it easy to mix and match the metals. It's a look that works very well.

With this new mixed looked we have come full circle, the highly polished look once again being the top dog. Straight out of the box it is now very easy to own a mod that looks just as good as any picture you might find. The only difficulty is keeping it in that condition, especially if like me, your GG is never out of your hand. The following two pictures are by the two GG users I mentioned at the start of this article, CaptSteve and dspin. They are among my most favourite ever pictures of Golden Greeks. I think they show the GG in their ultimate form, highly polished works of art.

Even with the many different ways of blinging up your GG I am still surprised at what people come up with. There are a ton of other pictures I could have posted here but it would mean this post would end up longer than it already is. If you want to see more pictures check out the GG picture site My Golden Greek where I have all of these images and many more.

What do you use?

Having made the decision to only use GG rebuildable atomisers I thought I would stock up on some wire and try some of this Japanese cotton that everyone has been raving about. I order my supplies from the Vape Mesh Company as I have used them before and find them to be a great company. Obviously I would recommend Official GG vendors for your vaping materials, I just find the Vape Mesh Company here in the UK, have an excellent range of wire and wick.

Esterigon with an Igo-W

Anyway while I was ordering I saw they now do rebuildables and noticed this Igo-W for under £10. Perfect for my wife who is just getting into vaping and is trying out lots of different flavours.  My wife is terrible at keeping things nice and tends to lose things a lot too, so I just need to find a cheap mod for her now.

I tried out the Igo-W on my Esterigon just to see how it fits and I think it looks really good. It has a diameter of 20mm so matches up pretty closely. It has a mirror polished surface which blends nicely with Esterigon. I bought the drip tip separately.

You can get the Igo-W at the following link.

Rebuildable-Dripping-Atomizer

Do you use a non GG tank, dripper or something else on your GG's? How important is it for you to have a complete GG unit? I know that despite my affection for all things GG there are hundreds of other options available. For me, I don't feel right if I'm not running as close to pure, 100% GG as I can get. However it's good to know that there are options for people who prefer to use something else on their mods. Or vice versa, a GG tank on a different mod.

Whatever you use, the most important thing is that you are happy with what you have. As long as it works, that's all that matters.

VIR - What is it?!!

As Shaggy said to Scooby, we have a mystery to solve. Most people already have a good idea of what Proteus is and there's a lot of anticipation around it's arrival. Something we are less clear on is VIR. Do a search on the GG forum on ecf for VIR and you'll get 37 pages of posts from various people speculating on, asking about or guessing what VIR is. Sprinkled between these posts every now and then, there will be a post from Imeo about VIR, perhaps answering a question or providing tiny clues as to what it is.

GG logo mystery box

But before you go searching these posts out, let me save you some time. After going through the majority of the posts I can tell you this, I have no idea what VIR is. There are hints pointing in the general direction of an electronic part, compatible with most GG's but beyond that, information is very scarce.

Apart from Imeo and a few lucky others no-one knows what VIR is and unfortunately for us Imeo seems to be a world champion at keeping secrets! Joking aside, I know Imeo is keen to prevent copying of VIR by revealing details too soon. Take the iPhone 6 as an example, you can already buy clones of it before it has even been released.

What I do know is that VIR is going to be huge. If Imeo says it will be a game changer then I'm happy to bet that it will be. I have some sketchy theories on what it might be but I'm happy to wait for the official announcement from Imeo. Now that Esterigon and Tilemahos have joined the GG line-up, Imeo can concentrate on the two of the biggest releases in GG history. There have been no indications on any timescale and I really hope we see a release this year, being in a constant state of waiting is shredding my nerves!

One thing is for sure, VIR will keep us all guessing for the time being.

Are you looking forward to VIR? What do you think it will be? I'd love to hear your thoughts, so feel free to comment below.

Esterigon + Tilemahos - best combo ever?

For a very long time now I have used my JustGG and Oddy.  Or JustGG and Ithaka. I have not strayed from this combination nor have I wanted to. However for the last couple of days I have not touched any of the above, I have used Esterigon and Tilemahos exclusively. A lot smaller than the JustGG/Ithaka setup and a lot lighter too. Performance is just as good and ease of use/setup might even be a bit easier.

At first I expected a smaller GG and atty to be a temporary distraction but I have been overwhelmed at how perfect and useable this combination is. Esterigon is a masterpiece in engineering, every little feature and detail works wonderfully. Tilemahos bears all the characteristics of  the more established GG atomisers but in a much smaller form and fits perfectly on top of Esterigon.

The battery capacity is obviously lower with a smaller size but even my cheap Efest 18490 batteries work very well. I get over a day of use from a single charge. The 18500 battery I have is much longer that stated and will not fit in Esterigon no matter how much I wanted it to.

Although smaller than my normal setup, size does not affect performance in any way, in fact I am surprised at how good the performance is. The wider space inside for the coil makes it a breeze to use. It takes me about 3 minutes to recoil Tilemahos. I normally use a single coil but there is more than enough room to run a dual coil (or more) setup.

The threads are all buttery smooth, fitting together perfectly. The CNC engraving on the bottom part is really nice, something I wasn't expecting. It makes a difference to the look and also serves as an aid to gripping when disassembling. I also found the length of the mouthpiece to be really good too, nice and compact when all the way closed, not too long when fully opened.

Overall I am extremely pleased with the latest GG releases. The only downside to my newfound admiration for the 'Esterimahos' combination is that my other GG's are starting to feel left out. Imeo said somewhere that once we started using these newer GG's we would wonder about our use of the larger GG's and I now know what he means.

As technology improves there will be changes in how we vape and what we use to vape. The release of Esterigon and Tilemahos are an indication of the direction Imeo is taking and the upcoming Proteus promises to push vaping and Golden Greek even further forward into the future.

I will forever love my GGTS, Stealth, JustGG and I'll continue to use them even as newer GG products come to market. However, I have total faith in Imeo's ability to come up with the next new thing in vaping and in my opinion Esterigon with Tilemahos is the best setup available in the world right now.

As ever I would like to thank Imeo and also Vassilis from e-smokeguru. Without them this Blog could not exist.
